A little bit about my design philosophy and journey!
I work to create designs with meaningful messages. Good design makes our life easier, or simply to pause and smile. I bring this passion to every project because I believe it’s important to use my skills for a positive purpose.
I was drawn to artistic expression at an early age. First by doodling on walls, much to my parents displeasure. Later I found I was less interested in measuring angles, then in drawing funny faces with geometric shapes in math class. I remember feeling an intense sense of wonder when I’d go to the bookstore with my mom. I was fascinated by all the magazine and book covers. My attention was completely captured by the magic of their design. That sense of awe drives my personal design philosophy and is something I bring to every packaging project today.
When I was 15 I left Taiwan and came to the U.S. as an international student. I continued to study art and quickly found opportunities to express myself. I helped design school apparel, experimented in wood-shop and created posters for a variety of events. I found science classes to be challenging, but was able to use my drawing skills as a tool to study and pass a tricky semester of biology.
Oregon State University gave me the opportunity to take those skills to another level. Being able to work as a designer for the university, working with clients, making things such as wayfinding, campaigns and murals. Design is everywhere. It guides, it informs, it entertains and I hope to use my passion to help others share what they love with the world.
